El Cerrito Historical Society Meeting Summary
Sunday, January 22, 2006

The president informed the members that the Arcadia Publishing reported that the Society's book "Images of America: El Cerrito" has sold about 1900 copies.

Richard Tuck, the mastermind behind the soon-to-be-opening "Playland-not-at-the-Beach" museum, was introduced to the membership.  Richard regaled the group with a tremendous presentation about the Playland artifacts that his group has preserved; the new artifacts that keep coming in unannounced through the front and back doors; and the plans that he has for making all of this fully accessible to the public.  The presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance.  More information about Playland-not-at-the-Beach can be found at www.playland-not-at-the-beach.org.

The subject of a dues increase was discussed.  The president indicated that the dues received by the society are not covering the ongoing expenses of the Society and that dues are at the same level as they were when the Society was founded in 1974.  The membership asked the Board to formulate a recommendation on this subject and present it to the membership for a vote at the next meeting.

The president announced that the Board of Directors had decided to give framed certificates to all Life members.  The president informed the membership that this would be completed before the next meeting and that anyone who expects to receive a certificate but does not receive one by the time of the next meeting should contact any officer.

The President described a meeting he attended where the City of El Cerrito outlined its plans for the space it intends to provide for the Society in the new City Hall and then later in the proposed new Library.  The President described and posted copies of the floor plans he had received at the meeting and asked Society members to contact him or any other Board member if they had comments to pass along.
