A.          Call to order at 3:06 PM

 

Present: Jenn Brock, Kyle Nelson, Galen Murphy, Edward Quidachay, Gopal Khagi, Erica Stitt, Mark Medcalf

 

 

B.           Principal’s Announcements: Galen updated committee on East Bay Center for the Performing Arts partnership.  There is possibility to expand the program to 1st –3rd  grades  if funds are available.  PTA reflections art contest was a tremendous success.  Turn out for the evening awards program was the best ever.

 

C.           New Business

1.      MRAD budget: Committee voted to spend MRAD money to repave picnic table area but keep tables and to install exterior motion detector lights in that area.

2.     Review By-Laws: Kyle reviewed the by-laws with the committee.

3.     Report on SSC Training: Erica, Galen, Gopal, Ed, and Gretchen attended the SSC training.  We learned that Erica should be listed as a staff member not as a parent.  Erica will take the place of Nina Morita.  Galen will advertise parent opening and appoint a replacement at the December meeting.

4.     Developing/Cultivating Parent Participation: Committee discussed email tree, question of the month to be posted on Web site, and posting minutes on web site.

5.     Future Funding/Grant writings: Gretchen will report in December.

6.     Fund Raiser for copier: Fundraising is not within the parameters of the SSC

 

D.          Old Business

1.      Monitoring the School Plan: Hands-on Science

Kyle’s report:

Hands on science is being taught at all grade levels.  For example, grade 2 has on-going studies with insects, pets, plants, bats, fossils, balance and motion, and measurement.  Study trips will include: the zoo, Petco, Lindsay Wildlife Museum.  Grade 3 students are studying astronomy, water, sundials, simple machines, and urban wildlife.  Fourth grade is studying magnetism and electricity, Kids in Creeks, landforms, earth science, weather, and rocks and minerals.  Fifth grade students are visiting the Chabot Science Center.  All grades are invited to the Family Science Night in February and all 4-6-grade students participate in the annual science fair.

1. Program Update: ELAP budget will be determined at the
December’s meeting.
