                                    Donations
Needed throughout the year:
-Dry-erase markers
-Pencils
-Hand sanitizer
- Tissue
-Sports equipment such as tennis balls, 4-square balls, volleyballs, Frisbees, soccer balls, basketballs, footballs (USED is fine!)
-Erasers (separate or for top of pencils)
We often need tissue and paper towels but please check first as these can take a lot of space to store.

Students may want to bring their own:
Daily snacks
Sharpened pencils each day
Small tissue packets
Please keep in mind that the desks are small so there isn't room for big items such as large pencil boxes or binders!

                      Volunteers/parent support

The most important things you can do to support our classroom are:
- Read the weekly newsletter and homework assignment
- Make sure your child is completing all homework carefully and doing extra practice when needed
- Return all forms promptly.
- Encourage your child to listen attentively, try their best, and be respectful and helpful to children and adults
- Have your child take responsibility for bringing their own homework, lunch, snack, etc. to school.
- Encourage your child to ask questions about homework and class policies, raise concerns, contribute ideas etc. during class meetings and other appropriate times.
- If you volunteer to go on a field trip, turn in your paperwork right away. (see below)
- Please do not send any food for the class or enter the classroom during class time without making prior arrangements with me. If you want to send a treat for your child's birthday, just check with me first so we can schedule an appropriate time (usually their regular snack time at 10:50 or in the last 5 or 10 minutes of the school day.) There will be a maximum of 33 students in the class. Please keep the snack simple and ready to serve.

Do you have expertise on a topic we are studying? If you have information you'd like to share with the class on something we are studying, please contact me! Important topics we study in fourth grade include: ecosystems, rocks and minerals, changes to the Earth such as volcanoes and earthquakes, electromagnetism, California history and geography

Field trips:
I hope to schedule the following trips:

Tilden,
Blake Garden, Dec. 1
John Muir National Historic Site, Martinez, Dec. 9
Oakland Museum, March 8, California history
Mother Lode in Coloma, May 31 to June 1 (overnight), Gold Rush and outdoor education

Blake Garden is a walking trip; all others will be by private vehicle.

Chaperones for the overnight trip will need to take special steps like getting fingerprinted. This is a process required by the school district. It can be time consuming and there are costs involved.

Field trip - driver form (note that copy of driver's license and auto insurance identification card must be attached)
