Challenge projects:

Science
- Create a model to explain a concept we studied in science this year. Conduct an experiment at home and report the results to the class or demonstrate the experiment for the class.

Math
  - Design a game that provides practice on one of the math skills we have worked on this year, or will work on later this year
  - Create a model to explain a concept such as division, negative numbers, fractions, coordinate grids, or decimals, or a booklet of word problems on one of those topics. Create a booklet that shows how one of these topics is used in real life.
  - Create your own class graph similar to those we have done in class. Talk with me if you need to collect data during class. Consider different types of graphs such as line graphs, line plots, and pie charts.

Language arts

- Create your own book - handwritten or on the computer - similar to the class books we have created on topics such as multiple meaning words, prepositional phrases etc. Some can be written as quiz books. For example, you can underline a word on the sentence on the front of the page, and list the part of speech on the back. Or you could give an example of figurative language on the front and give the type of figurative language on the back This way, the reader can guess what type of word or phrase the front represents, then turn the page and check for themselves. You are welcome to bind your books at home or at school.

   Possible topics:
Parts of grammar - Prepositions, adverbs, irregular and verbs, etc.
Figurative language - Similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, idioms
   Roots and prefixes
   Comparing and contrasting
   Opinion vs. fact
   Cause and effect

    - Revise and publish a story, collection of poems, play etc. you have written (taken from your Leaning Log or classroom writing journal is fine). See me if you'd like to use the binding machine or other binding materials in the room.

Social studies
-Do a report, build a model, or create a game that includes content related to Califoria history

Other ideas related to the topics we are studying are welcome!
