Our class is a learning community in which students are encouraged to be supportive of one another and share knowledge, ideas, questions, and concerns. The academic content is based on the California standards.

Some of the things we are working on: (revised Nov. 15)
- Division (4th graders do long division by a one digit- number and 5th by two-digit numbers and with decimals)
- Writing summaries and other expository (nonfiction) essays with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion
- Metaphor, simile, hyperbole, personification, symbolism, imagery
- Cause and effect (4th)
- Negative numbers ( on number lines and in patterns, in word problems such as involving temperature, owing and elevation, simple addition and subtraction)
- Learning about genres such as fable, fantasy, myth, legend, fairytale, science fiction, historical fiction, realistic fiction
Upcoming:
- Coodinate grids
- Rocks and minerals, our changing Earth (erosion, plate tectonics etc.) (4th)
- Earth's water and water cycle and weather (5th)
